What are the check-in and check-out times? +

Check-in is from 3pm. Check-out is by 11am.

If you need a slightly earlier check-in or later check-out, just drop us a message and we’ll do our best to accommodate.

Is there parking? +

Yes — there is space for one car on the driveway directly outside the cottage in front of the bins. If you have a second car, there is free on-street parking at the bottom of the lane.

What is the Wi-Fi password? +

Wi-Fi details are provided on arrival.

Is the Wi-Fi fast? +

Yes. We recently upgraded the internet, so there’s full fibre to the property and a strong connection in every room of the cottage.

How do I connect to the Wi-Fi? +

Look for the network named hollyhocks guest and enter the password we gave you. If you have any trouble, just drop us a message and we’ll help you get connected.

How do I use the TV? +

Press the power button on the TV remote, then press Home to open the main menu. Use the arrow buttons to choose what you want:

  • HDMI for any connected device
  • Apps such as streaming services

Press OK (in the middle of the arrows) to select. Use Volume + / − to adjust sound. Press Back or Home to return to the main menu.

If you want to use a streaming app

  1. Press Home
  2. Open the app you want
  3. Log in with your own account if needed

If the TV is not showing anything

  1. Check the TV is switched on
  2. Press Home
  3. Select the correct input / HDMI source

Please log out of your streaming accounts before checkout.

How do I light and use the wood burner? +
  1. Prepare the fire. Place one or two firelighters beneath a loose stack of dry kindling and two small logs. Leave gaps so air can circulate.
  2. Open both air vents. Push the small slider above the glass fully right (+), then open the round vent below the glass.
  3. Light the firelighters and close the glass door. Allow the kindling and small logs to catch properly.
  4. Close the bottom vent once the fire is burning well. Keep it closed while using the fire, and use the top slider to control the airflow.
  5. Add logs gradually. Open the glass door slowly, add a log and close the door again. Avoid filling the stove with too much wood.
  6. Adjust the top slider for steady flames. Move it right for more air or left for a gentler burn. Avoid closing it so far that the fire smoulders.

Please keep the stove doors closed while the fire is burning, except when lighting or adding logs. The handles and controls become hot, so use a stove glove.

Where are the nearest supermarkets? +
Is there a barbecue I can use? +

Yes, there is a barbecue available. Please let us know in advance if you’d like to use it, so we can make sure it’s clean and ready with everything you need.

Where do I put the rubbish? +

General waste goes in the black bin at the back of the parking space. Spare bin bags are usually under the kitchen sink, and we’re happy to drop more off if you run out.

Where do I put the recycling? +

Leave recycling next to the kitchen bin or in the porch and we’ll sort it out after you leave. No need to separate it.

Please don’t use the green bin outside, as that’s for garden waste only.
